Indications

Regulates the stomach and intestines, unblocks the meridians and collaterals. Treats abdominal pain, abdominal distension, vomiting and diarrhea, borborygmus (hyperactive bowel sounds), swelling and pain of the upper limbs, upper limb immobility, difficult urination with dark yellow urine, chest pain, cold sensation in the bone marrow, numbness of the hands and feet, wheezing, large intestinal qi disorder, and wind-type headache.

Precise Location

On the forearm, 3 cun below the elbow crease, on the line connecting Yangxi (LI-5) and Quchi (LI-11).

Location Method

Locate the point 1 horizontal finger-width (approximately 1 cun) upward from Xialian (LI-8). (Alternatively, measure 3 cun downward from the elbow crease along the line connecting Yangxi and Quchi; the point is where firm pressure produces a distinct sore and distending sensation.)

Massage Method

① Massage: Press, knead, or pluck with the thumb. ② Moxibustion: Apply mild-warm moxa stick. Pressing, kneading, or plucking Shanglian can treat upper limb bi-pain and abdominal pain. Therapeutic actions: Regulates the stomach and intestines, unblocks the meridians and collaterals.
