Efficacy & Actions
Stops bleeding and reduces swelling.
Indications
Traumatic bleeding; swelling and pain.
Modern Pharmacology
Modern pharmacological studies have confirmed that the aqueous extract of Anthriscus leaves (AE-ASL) exhibits the following significant pharmacological activities: Anti-inflammatory effect: AE-ASL significantly inhibited the secretion of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E₂ (PGE₂) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 cells and dose-dependently reduced the mRNA and protein expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and inflammatory mediators such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6. The mechanism involves the inhibition of nuclear translocation of the NF-κB p65 subunit and the phosphorylation of MAPK. In the carrageenan-induced rat paw edema model, oral administration (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg) resulted in edema inhibition rates of 15%, 31%, and 40%, respectively, after 4 hours. Chondroprotective effect: AE-ASL significantly inhibited IL-1β-induced expression of nitrite, PGE₂, iNOS, COX-2, MMP-3, MMP-13, and ADAMTS-4 in rat primary chondrocytes. The mechanism is related to the inhibition of the MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways. In a DMM surgery-induced osteoarthritis rat model, oral administration for 8 weeks significantly inhibited cartilage destruction, suggesting that Anthriscus Leaf has the potential to delay the progression of osteoarthritis.

The essential oil contains more than ten compounds, including phenol, cresols (o-, m-, and p-cresol), and guaiacol. Lignans: Deoxypodophyllotoxin, which exhibits antitumor, antiproliferative, antiplatelet aggregation, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and insecticidal activities. Sterols: Stigmasterol and β-sitosterol. Others: n-Paraffins and n-alcohols.
