Polystichum deltodon (Bak.) Diels
Aliases:Wú Gōng Cǎo (literally "Centipede Grass" — named for its long, narrow, segmented pinnae resembling a centipede) and Huī Guàn Zhòng (literally "Grey Guanzhong" — named for its resemblance to Guanzhong (Dryopteris crassirhizoma) but with a greyish appearance). These are alternative names for 对生耳蕨 (Duìshēng ěr Jué), i.e., the dried whole herb of Polystichum deltodon (Bak.) Diels.
Duìshēng ěr Jué (Opposite‑leaved Shield Fern) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the dried whole herb of Polystichum deltodon (Bak.) Diels, a plant belonging to the family Dryopteridaceae.
Efficacy & Actions
Promotes blood circulation, relieves pain, reduces swelling, promotes diuresis, and prevents colds.
Indications
Traumatic injuries; snake bites; difficult urination and edema (due to its diuretic effect); traumatic bleeding; and prevention of colds.
Usage & Dosage
For oral administration: decoct in water, 15–30 g. For topical application: take an appropriate amount, mash and apply externally; or grind into powder and sprinkle on the affected area.
Selected Formulas
For traumatic injuries (Hunan Materia Medica) Take an appropriate amount of Dui Sheng Er Jue (a local fern) and Mabiancao (Verbena officinalis), crush them together, and apply to the affected area. For snake bites (Hunan Materia Medica) First, suck out the contaminated blood from the wound, then crush fresh Dui Sheng Er Jue leaves and apply to the wound. If the wound has ulcerated, grind the leaves into powder and apply to the affected area. If swelling spreads upward, take 30g of the whole plant of Dui Sheng Er Jue, 3g of garlic, and a small amount of Xionghuang (Realgar). Decoct in water and drink.
