Lián Ruǐ Chá (Lianruicha) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the dried root, leaf, and flower of Camellia fraterna Hance, a plant belonging to the family Theaceae. It grows in sparse mountain forests, as well as in valleys and forest margins, at altitudes of 150–500 meters. It was first recorded in Zhonghua Bencao (Chinese Materia Medica).

Clears heat, removes toxicity, and reduces swelling.

Indications

Carbuncles, sores and ulcerations; sore throat; and traumatic injuries.

Usage & Dosage

For oral administration: decoct in water, 9–15 g. For topical application: take an appropriate amount of the fresh herb, mash it, and apply to the affected area.

Selected Formulas

For ulcerated carbuncles and sores (Zhejiang Medicinal Plant Records) Take equal amounts of fresh Lianrui tea (Camellia fraterna) leaves and fresh Langyu (Ulmus parvifolia) leaves, crush them, and apply externally. For wind-fire sore throat (Zhejiang Medicinal Plant Records) Take 12-15g of Lianrui tea flowers, decoct in water, add white sugar, and drink. For traumatic injuries (Zhejiang Medicinal Plant Records) Take 12-15g of Lianrui tea root, decoct in water and drink.
