Dùn Yè Cǎo (Blunt-leaf Grass) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the dried whole herb of Stenotaphrum helferi Munro ex Hook.f., a plant belonging to the family Gramineae (Poaceae). It grows in moist grasslands, forest margins, or sparse forests at altitudes below approximately 1,100 meters. It was first recorded in Zhongguo Zhuyao Zhiwu Tushuo (Illustrated Handbook of Major Chinese Plants).
Efficacy & Actions
Supplements qi and promotes labor.
Indications
Gastroptosis, uterine prolapse, habitual abortion, and dystocia (difficult labor).
Usage & Dosage
For oral administration: decoct in water, 15–30 g.
Contraindications
This product has labor‑inducing effects. Pregnant women and women in labor should use it under the guidance of a physician.
Selected Formulas
For prolonged labor and retained placenta (empirical formula) Take an appropriate amount of Dunye Cao (a local herb), decoct in water, and take together with powdered snake slough (Longyi, calcined and ground). For fishbone lodged in the throat (empirical formula) Take the whole plant of Dunye Cao, decoct in water and drink.
