Efficacy & Actions
Moistens the lungs and relieves cough, activates blood circulation and dissipates masses, reduces swelling and removes toxicity.
Indications
Acute and chronic bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis with cough, scrofula (tuberculous lymphadenitis), traumatic injuries, hemorrhoids and rectal prolapse, snake bites, and pain in the lower back and hypochondrium.
Modern Pharmacology
Moistens the lungs, relieves cough, activates blood, dissipates masses, reduces swelling, and removes toxicity.
Usage & Dosage
For oral administration: decoct in water, 3–9 g; or steep in wine for oral use. For topical application: apply an appropriate amount, mashed; or grind into powder and mix with a suitable base for application; or grind with vinegar and apply externally.
Selected Formulas
For hemorrhoids and rectal prolapse (Hunan Materia Medica) Take the stem of the herb, grind it into powder, mix with Vaseline, and apply externally. For venomous snake bites (Hunan Materia Medica) Take 3-6g of the stem, grind with boiling water and take orally, 2-3 times daily. Also grind with children's urine and apply to the swollen area.
