Zǐ Sū Bāo (Perilla Calyx) is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is the persistent calyx (i.e., the calyx after maturation and drying) of Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt. var. arguta (Benth.) Hand.-Mazz. and Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt. var. purpurascens (Hayata) H.W. Li, plants belonging to the family Lamiaceae. It is an annual herb, 30–200 cm tall, with a distinctive aromatic odor. It prefers a warm, humid climate and ample sunlight.

Indications
For oral administration: decoct in water, the usual dosage is 3–9 g. Traditional dosage: recorded in some ancient texts as 1–2 qian (approximately 3–6 g).

Contraindications
Mild in action: This herb is more gentle in action than Perilla Leaf (Zisuye) and is specifically designed for patients with weak constitution. Generally, it is not suitable for patients with strong constitution suffering from colds. Should not be taken in excessive amounts: Although it is mild in nature, it should still be used at the recommended dosage under medical guidance.
